How It Works

The Concept

This program is built as a concept-based learning system.

Clear Goal

Each module has a defined outcome — not a list of techniques, but a specific quality to develop.

Builds on the Previous

Nothing is isolated. Every phase prepares the foundation for the next level of understanding.

Develops Specific Qualities

Structure, connection, power, release, understanding — each phase has one primary focus.

You are not collecting techniques.

You are developing understanding.

You always know what to train, why you train it, and what it develops.

The Lineage

Tung Kong Chow Gar
Southern Praying Mantis

Chow Gar is a rare and highly refined internal martial art, known for its depth, efficiency, and direct power. It traces back to Chow Ah Nam, who trained in the Shaolin Temple of Fukien, and has been preserved through an unbroken lineage: Chow Ah Nam → Wong Fook Go → Lau Sui → Ip Shui → Ip Chee Keung.

The system is built around the development of Gen Tan Geng — short-range explosive power — through a structured Chi Kung practice that simultaneously builds health, internal power, and fighting ability.

Grandmaster Ip Chee Keung has awarded the title of Master to only four people in the world. One of them teaches here.

This is not reconstructed knowledge.
It is transmitted through direct lineage.

What you learn here is how the system is actually taught — not interpreted, not reconstructed.

Transmission Path

5 Phases. One Complete System.

A structured, sequential curriculum. Each phase builds on the previous one. You cannot skip ahead — the system is designed to develop real ability, not surface knowledge.

This is a structured path. Start from the beginning.

You don't need to decide what to learn.

The system guides you.

Start with Phase 1. The system guides everything that follows.

1
Phase 1 — Awakening

Get a Taste of It

This initial module lays the groundwork of the entire Chow Gar system. It focuses on building your body frame, teaching you essential concepts, and introducing powerful strengthening exercises. You will learn the core hand techniques of the system and the vital Chi Kung exercise, Saam Bo Gin (Three Steps Arrow Punch) — the central practice that underpins everything that follows.

Phase 2 — Transformation

Feel and Understand

This module expands your ability to sense and interpret internal sensations — the critical skill for all internal work. You will learn to apply principles independently, recognizing inner sensations to guide your actions. This stage integrates internal concepts with practical Chi Kung exercises, deepening your understanding of how power is generated and transmitted. Available with subtitles in 9 languages.

Unlocks after completing Phase 1 — minimum 6 weeks

Phase 3 — Forging

Get the Power

Building on the theories and tools from the previous modules, this stage focuses on enhancing your strength and developing the ability to observe different power types and levels within yourself. You will strengthen your foundation and learn to identify faults in your power chain. The ability to self-observe during practice is emphasized — this is the crucial skill for ongoing self-directed improvement.

Unlocks after completing Phase 2 — minimum 6 weeks

Phase 4 — Release

Shake off the Bridge

This module acts as a precision tool to sharpen your martial arts skills and deepen understanding of body dynamics. The focus is on refining and releasing built-up power — not adding more, but perfecting the delivery of what you have already developed. You will receive detailed feedback frameworks to perfect your techniques, ultimately enhancing your overall martial arts mastery.

Unlocks after completing Phase 3 — minimum 6 weeks

Phase 5 — Mastery

The Way of the Mantis

While it may appear that this is the culmination of your journey, it is in fact the beginning of a new era. At this stage you have developed significant power and control. Now it is time to further refine your skills by mastering forms that demand deep foundational understanding, and to become proficient with the weapons of the system — including the Poison Snake Pole Form and the complete Fut Sao Buddhist Hand Form.
